The new Fellow Darío Villalba championed the risk of the artist facing the creative process
Madrid.- In his inaugural speech yesterday in the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, Darío Villalba upheld the risk of artists while confronting the creative process in an "anarchic" and "wickedly ingenious" effort. Villalba confirmed his commitment to the institution which will hopefully serve him as a truce to return to painting in search for this master work "every time closer but maybe still not achieved".
Before he really gor started with his speech titled "About the creative act.New reflections" and directed to " dialog-rich minds open to any truely considerable stimulus" , Villalba reflected about the attitude of many young artists who, "to be accepted in what seems to be contemporary, get scared in their personal attitude". Although there are exceptions, " what is happening in the art fairs is mostly disappointing, with the sad cover of easy modernity".
For the new Fellow Academic, creation or creative art is a manifestation of the most enriching and free spirit, in which "all is subjected to change and even the biggest stupidity of his time can be an ally of creative richness ". Villalba says that " the artist has to be completely conscious about the time he was born in, which are his ghosts or parents to slaughter, or, on the contrary, to continue and cherish the exciting flow of art history".
Villalba beliefs that the mind of an artist is a blank canvas and that it is "the shameless artist" who since the beginning of history transgresses or intervenes in the external order. "He feels the almost biological necessity to add something or a lot to the already created to leave afterwards another layer of beauty for humanity to enjoy". The Fellow said to have the almost certainty of a magic talisman in order to distinguish a successful painting from a failure is nothing else than taking risky decisions correctly. " To paint, to write, to create, is in the end nothing else than a selective process: to decide". Therefore the artist has to act sensible and affectionate while handling with equal transparency and calmness chance and quiet reflections.
